Your Guide to Hiring a French Riviera Wedding Photographer

As a French Riviera wedding photographer, I know this coastline is not just a backdrop. It is a light, a pace, a particular way the sea holds the horizon at dusk. From the gardens of Monaco to the hidden coves of Rayol-Canadel, this coastline has its own rhythm — and photographing a wedding here means learning to follow it.

I have been working along the Côte d’Azur since 2008, covering weddings at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel, Anjuna Beach in Eze, Bastide Saint Antoine in Grasse, and private villas above the Rayol peninsula. My approach here is the same as in Provence — present, discreet, unhurried.

Why Choose the French Riviera for Your Wedding?

Venues of the French Riviera

Monte Carlo Bay Hotel — Monaco

Bride and groom portrait at Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel, Monaco
Perched on a four-hectare peninsula between the sea and a saltwater lagoon, the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel is one of Monaco’s most distinctive wedding venues. The Florentine Terraces, the Mediterranean Garden and the Lagoon Beach offer a range of settings within a single property. The Blue Bay restaurant, with its two Michelin stars, sets the tone for the evening. The light here in late afternoon, when it catches the surface of the lagoon, is extraordinary.

Rayol-Canadel — Private Villas

Wedding ceremony on the French Riviera
Rayol-Canadel is the Riviera at its most discreet. There are no casinos, no Formula 1 circuits, no crowds. There are pine forests, clear water, and an unhurried quality of light that photographers rarely want to leave. Private villas here offer complete exclusivity — a wedding that belongs entirely to the couple and their guests, with the sea as the only witness beyond the ceremony.

Capturing the French Riviera: The Photographic Perspective

The Light on the Côte d’Azur

The Mediterranean light is intense and directional. Unlike Provence, where the mistral keeps the air clear and soft, the Riviera coast can create a hard midday light that is unforgiving in photographs. The solution is planning. The golden hour here — roughly the ninety minutes before sunset — produces some of the most extraordinary natural light in Europe. Scheduling your couple portraits during this window is not optional, it is essential.

Meet Sebastien

Your wedding is a collection of quiet intervals and profound moments that exist beyond the performance.

After fifteen years of documenting celebrations, I have learned that the most meaningful images are those found in the stillness between the grand events.

Whether your celebration unfolds under the light of Provence, Italy, or beyond, the focus remains on your presence.
You deserve a visual story that is felt rather than pretended.

A refined documentary of spontaneous joy that remains as poetic and timeless as the day itself.

The Best Time of Year

May, June, September and October are the ideal months. July and August are beautiful but crowded — venues, roads and vendors are at capacity, and the light is at its hardest. Spring and autumn offer softer conditions, more availability, and a Riviera that feels less performative and more genuinely itself. For Monaco specifically, avoid the Formula 1 Grand Prix period in late May — the entire principality is at maximum capacity and prices reflect it.

Working on the French Riviera

Monaco — What Couples Need to Know

Wedding celebration at Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel, Monaco
Monaco does not permit civil weddings for non-residents, so celebrations there are typically symbolic ceremonies followed by a reception. This is not a limitation — it often allows couples more freedom in venue and format. The concentration of exceptional venues within a few square kilometres is unmatched anywhere on the coast. I have worked at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and other Monaco properties — there are no restrictions on external photographers working with private clients at these venues.

Château de la Napoule — Mandelieu

Bride and groom portrait at Mandelieu-la-Napoule wedding on the French Riviera
On the edge of the bay of Cannes, the Château de la Napoule is one of the most singular wedding venues on the French Riviera. A medieval castle restored in the early twentieth century by American sculptor Henry Clews, it combines Gothic towers, Moorish arches and a walled garden that opens directly onto the sea. The light here is extraordinary — the stone catches it warm in the afternoon, and the water beyond turns deep blue as the sun drops. It is a setting that photographs with an almost cinematic quality, and one that rewards a photographer who knows when to stay still.

INVESTMENTS

How much does a wedding photographer cost on the French Riviera?

My coverage for the main wedding day on the French Riviera starts at €7,000, all fees included, with no hourly limit. This covers the full day from preparations through the reception. Additional days such as a welcome dinner or post-wedding brunch are €1,500 each. I am based near Marseille, roughly two hours from Nice and ninety minutes from Monaco — I cover the Côte d’Azur without travel surcharges for most destinations.

Enriching the Guest Experience

Exploring the Côte d’Azur with Your French Riviera Wedding Photographer

Your wedding is also a chance for your guests to discover one of Europe’s most celebrated coastlines. Plan excursions to the markets of Nice, a boat trip along the Esterel coast, or a day in the medieval village of Eze perched above the sea. These experiences will stay with your guests long after the photographs have been delivered.

Your French Riviera Wedding Awaits

From Monaco to Rayol-Canadel, from the hills above Grasse to the waterfront of Nice, the French Riviera offers a range of settings that few regions in the world can match. What unites them is the light, the sea, and the particular quality of ease that comes when a place has been receiving guests with pleasure for over a century. I would be glad to be part of your celebration here.

FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS

1. WHAT IS YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE ON THE FRENCH RIVIERA?

Documentary and editorial. I blend into the celebration to capture authentic emotions and candid moments, while also creating deliberate couple portraits in the exceptional light of the Côte d’Azur. The result is contemporary, timeless, and never staged.

2. WHERE ARE YOU BASED, AND DO YOU TRAVEL TO THE FRENCH RIVIERA?

I am based in Marsillargues, in the Hérault, roughly two hours from Nice and ninety minutes from Monaco. I cover the entire French Riviera — from Menton to Saint-Tropez — without travel surcharges for most destinations. For venues in Italy such as Cinque Terre or Florence, a travel supplement applies.

3. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECEIVE OUR FRENCH RIVIERA WEDDING PHOTOS?

Typically three weeks from the wedding date. This is significantly faster than the industry average, and it applies whether your wedding is in Monaco, Rayol-Canadel, or anywhere on the Côte d’Azur.

4. HOW MANY PHOTOGRAPHERS WILL BE PRESENT?

Coverage always starts with me. A second photographer is available on request, and I recommend it for larger venues or when multiple simultaneous moments require comprehensive coverage, particularly at Monaco venues where the ceremony and cocktail reception can unfold in separate spaces.

5. HOW DO WE BOOK YOUR SERVICES FOR THE FRENCH RIVIERA?

We start with a conversation — by email or video call — to understand your vision and confirm availability. I then send you a tailored proposal. To secure your date, a signed contract and deposit are required. I recommend booking 9 to 18 months in advance for peak season dates on the Riviera.

6. HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD WE BOOK FOR A FRENCH RIVIERA WEDDING?

Between 9 and 18 months for dates between May and October. Monaco and high-demand Riviera venues often have their own booking timelines that push couples to confirm vendors earlier. Reach out as soon as your venue is confirmed.

7. DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH?

Yes. The majority of my clients on the French Riviera are international couples from the UK, the US, Scandinavia and Australia. All communication, from first enquiry to gallery delivery, is conducted in English.

8. CAN YOU PHOTOGRAPH A CIVIL CEREMONY IN MONACO?

Monaco does not permit civil weddings for non-residents. Celebrations there are typically symbolic ceremonies followed by a reception at a venue such as the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel. I have worked at Monaco venues and there are no restrictions on external photographers working with private clients.

“Sébastien was our wedding photographer at Le Galinier and we couldn’t have been more thrilled with his work! He truly captured the essence of our day – with wonderful candid moments from us and our guests, as well as incredibly beautiful images throughout the wedding celebration. Everyone commented on how the feeling of the wedding was so beautifully conveyed through the photos – we were simply overwhelmed with the number of pictures that we loved! He was discreet throughout the day so no one felt his presence was intrusive or overbearing at all – which is why he managed to get such wonderfully natural and spontaneous images. We are both so happy that we had Sébastien as our photographer and couldn’t recommend him highly enough!”

“We want to thank Sébastien for his amazing work! The photos of us as a couple truly capture our essence and beautifully showcase the charm of the château. We’re also really grateful that Sébastien managed to photograph all our guests, even though there were so many people. Some of our guests have already been asking who the photographer was — they loved Sébastien’s work as much as we do! We’re also very impressed by how quickly you delivered the photos. All in all, you are a fantastic photographer, and we will absolutely recommend Sébastien to everyone. If there’s another occasion in the future, we’d love to work with Sébastien again.”

“Sebastien captured beautifully the precious moments of our special day. The photos are really stunning and perfectly as we wanted them to be. Sebastien is also a good listener and with his strong experience in wedding photography, he knew how to keep us at ease in front of his lense. Sebastien knows how to remain discreet during the ceremony to immortalised unique photos of us and our guests. Furthermore, Sebastien went extra-mile for us by being flexible and understanding while we had to make few adjustments and last minute changes due to the unforeseen rain after the ceremony. Thank you for everything! Nurani & Mark”

“Sebastien was an absolute pleasure to work with! We planned our wedding from the US so finding vendors is always a little extra challenging. The moment we met Sebastien in person we immediately felt so comfortable. Not only was he a joy to work with but he captured the essence of our wedding so perfectly. When looking through photos you can feel the emotion. My fiance, our guests and me are so in love with the photographs! We hope to find a reason to work with him again.”

“Choosing a wedding photographer, for us, was one of the most important tasks when it came to planning our wedding. We dedicated our time to finding someone who we adored and someone who’s work connected to us emotionally. When we came across Sebastien’s portfolio, we instantly knew that he was the wedding photographer for us. In the lead up to our big day and during the wedding day itself, he was professional, helpful, always smiling and continued to make us giggle and feel relaxed throughout. It was important for us to work with a photographer who captured our day authentically and romantically. We both love natural and raw wedding photos that capture the true feelings and emotions during a wedding. We also love B&W images and images that have a wonderful timeless and classic, yet modern and artistic feel to them. Sebastien’s work is exactly that. Once we received the photos back, which came back extremely quickly, we were both in tears with just how beautiful they were. A wedding day can go so quickly, but looking back at these brought back some of the most happiest memories we will both remember for a lifetime. We can’t thank or recommend Sebastien enough.
